  1. I know this is a year-old podcast, but you guys said the scene of Noriko jogging in the mecha was a reference to Punch-Out, or Punch-Out was a reference to that. Have you guys never seen Rocky????

(Gunbuster is one of my fav anime of all time btw, loved this discussion!)

    1. Ooh. Looking back after a year (wow), while this probably isn’t one of our best episodes, I think we did the topic justice — really happy to hear that you enjoyed it!

Haha, yeah, that is a pretty big reference for us to miss! I can’t speak for the other guys, but, in all fairness to myself, I’ve only ever seen Rocky IV (which was on TV practically twice a week when I was a kid).

      1. ALSO, while Zen was right about Diebuster being “unnecessary” I guess, it’s also a lot of fun and worth watching. It has some great mecha action, great characters, and the ending made me cry like a babby for like 20 minutes and still makes me tear up just thinking about it. It’s really beautiful! And it’s not obvious right away but it does tie in with Gunbuster. The service is even more egregious than Gunbuster though, but if you can just bear with it, it’s a great ride.
